New York Times Interactive Map annexes Taiwan to PRC

Mike Turton is hot off the line again with a sensational link to a New York Times interactive map that shows Taiwan as part of China:

To send a protest, this is what I emailed the NYT:

to: webmedia@nytimes.com

Minorities in China

My Comment:
Dear New York Times,
The last time I checked, and I do live in the country, Taiwan was not a part of the People's Republic of China. It is a de facto independent country with the formal title 'Republic of China'. It is governed entirely separately from the PRC. Please remove Taiwan from your interactive map as this error is likely to upset the feelings of the Taiwanese, the many Taiwan advocacy groups operating around the world, and the Republic of China government itself.
many thanks
yours faithfully,
Arthur Dent

UPDATE:

The New York Times has amended its map to take out Taiwan!. It seems that they must have received enough pressure to make the change. Well done all of us who played our own small parts in making this happen.

Very cool, looks like the New York Times did the right thing and made the correction!
